Credit Card Processing

Accept credit and debit card payments safely and securely.

How Card Payments Work

When a customer pays with a card, the system sends the payment to their bank for approval. The payment terminal handles all the card information securely - your register never stores card numbers.

Accepted Cards:

  • Visa
  • Mastercard
  • American Express
  • Discover

Card Payment Steps

Step 1: Customer Chooses Card Payment

During checkout, the customer selects card as their payment method (Fortis, Ebiz, or Stripe).

Step 2: Enter Payment Amount

Enter the payment amount in the Tender dialog. Click the card payment method button.

Step 3: Present Card Terminal to Customer

The payment terminal (card reader) will ask the customer to:

  • Insert the card - Chip cards are most secure
  • Or tap the card - Contactless payment (fastest)
  • Or swipe the card - For older cards without a chip

Step 4: Customer Completes Payment

The customer may need to:

  • Enter a PIN (personal identification number)
  • Sign the screen with their finger
  • Tap "OK" to confirm

Step 5: Wait for Approval

The terminal connects to the customer's bank to approve the payment. This takes 10-30 seconds.

Terminal displays:

  • ✅ APPROVED - Payment accepted, transaction complete
  • ❌ DECLINED - Payment rejected, ask customer for different card or payment method

Step 6: Take Back the Terminal

When finished, take the terminal back from the customer.

Step 7: Receipt Prints

The receipt prints automatically showing: - Last 4 digits of card (e.g., ****1234) - Amount charged - Date and time

Remember

Card payments are secure. The payment terminal handles card numbers, not your register. Just present the terminal, wait for approval, and take it back. Your payment processor handles everything securely.
