Hardware Requirements¶

Server (On-Premise Deployment)¶

For 1-5 registers: - Processor: Quad-core (4 cores, 2 GHz+) - RAM: 8 GB minimum - Storage: 100 GB (SSD recommended) - Database: SQL Server 2022+ with 50 GB+ capacity

For 6-20 registers: - Processor: 8-core (3 GHz+) - RAM: 16 GB minimum - Storage: 500 GB (SSD) - Database: SQL Server 2022+ with 200 GB+ capacity - Redundancy: RAID-1 or higher for data protection

For 20+ registers: - Dedicated database server - Load balancer for API layer - Professional IT management recommended - Consult Kensium Implementation team for sizing

Register Terminal¶

Processor: Intel/AMD dual-core processor (2 GHz or faster)
RAM: 4 GB minimum (8 GB recommended)
Storage: 256 MB available disk space (SSD recommended for faster startup)
Display: 15.6" or larger touchscreen (1024x768 resolution minimum, 1920x1080 recommended)
Input Devices: Touchscreen or mouse and keyboard, USB barcode scanner (recommended), USB keyboard for data entry
Peripherals: Receipt printer (thermal 80mm or 58mm), Optional second display for customer-facing receipts, Optional magnetic stripe reader or chip card reader for payment processing, Optional cash drawer with USB or printer-driven control

Database¶

SQL Server: - Minimum: Version 2022 - Recommended: Version 2022 or later - Editions: Standard or Enterprise - Collation: SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS (default)

Backup Requirements: - Daily automated backups - Off-site backup storage (cloud or external) - Recovery testing at least monthly

SQL Express Note: If using SQL Express at store and/or corporate servers, there are no built-in backups for the database. Third-party backup software required.

Network Requirements¶

Internet Connectivity¶

Required for: - User login and authentication - Card payment processing - Tax calculations (AvaTax integration) - ERP synchronization (Acumatica) - Software updates and patches - Support data (optional)

Minimum Speed: - Download: 10 Mbps - Upload: 5 Mbps - Latency: < 100ms to server

Recommended: - Download: 50 Mbps - Upload: 20 Mbps - Redundant internet connection (dual ISP)

Intranet/Local Network¶

Network Type: Ethernet (100 Mbps minimum) or WiFi 5/6

Components: - Register → Server: Direct LAN connection required - Printer → Register: USB or network connection - Cash drawer → Printer: USB connection via receipt printer

Firewall Rules: - Allow register to server on port 443 (HTTPS) - Allow outbound HTTPS (443) for internet services - Allow NTP port 123 for time synchronization - Block unnecessary external access to register

Load Balancing (Multi-Register)¶

For 6+ registers: - Implement network load balancer - DNS round-robin recommended - Session affinity required (sticky sessions) - Consistent server time (NTP synchronized)

Secondary/Customer Display Printer¶

Optional second thermal printer for customer-facing receipts

Payment Processing Requirements¶

Credit Card Processing¶

Requirements: - Active merchant account with processor (Fortis, Ebiz, or Stripe) - EMV (chip) reader certified for card acceptance - PCI-DSS compliance (Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard) - SSL/TLS encryption for all card transactions
