Version 7.0 of Kensium Point-of-Sale is a major version release of the product. The primary focus of the release is to:

  • Modernize the user interface.
  • Improve and simplify the deployment process.
  • Modernize the system architecture to support faster addition of features and bug fixes.

New Features

Web-Based Register

The legacy, Windows-based Register component has been completely replaced with a modern, web-browser-based user interface.

KRMS-512: New POS Admin and Security Admin

The legacy POS Admin and Security Admin components have been replaced with a modern web-based UI, hosted in RMS Server.

KRMS-101: New RMS Admin Theme

Adapted the RMS user interface to use a new Kensium POS branded theme and color scheme.

KRMS-137: Field Definitions & Placements

POS 7 has a new mechanism to override field behavior and define custom fields for customers and inventory items. Combined with "field placements", this feature replaces several legacy functions that were not integrated and did not work well together.

The new field mechanism is a foundation to support future integration with ERP features, such as product and customer attributes.

KRMS-151: Automated database patch

Upgrades to the POS database schema are now automatically performed. The legacy POS "DB Patch" component has been removed as there is no need to manually run the operation.

KRMS-164: Search & View Payment Attempts

Diagnostic screen to search and view credit card payment attempts, with their last known statuses. This tool replaces the legacy approach of scanning log files for payment processor errors.

KRMS-193: Centralized Key Commands management

Key commands (mapping of shortcut keys to Register functions) is now managed centrally through the Corporate RMS site.

These mappings no longer have to be edited manually (via the Commands.txt file) at each Register installation.

KRMS-209: Image Thumbnails in Sale Grid

The Register can now (optionally) show image thumbnails for all items added to a sale.

KRMS-306: Central Management of Card Payments

Configuration of payment integrations (e.g. Stripe) is now performed centrally at the Corporate location. Management overhead is reduced, as individual integration configuration(s) can now be referenced and shared across multiple Register Classes (KRMS-313).

KRMS-323: Custom Branding

Custom branding of the Register and RMS components is simplified, and managed at the Corporate RMS installation. Customizable elements include company name, welcome text, and logo images used in user interfaces and printed output.

KRMS-325: Centralized Email Configuration & Delivery

Email receipts and email closing reports are now delivered through the Corporate server entirely. Email can now be configured once at the Corporate location, rather than once at each Store site (or even per Register) as required by previous POS versions.

KRMS-326: EShipJet Printer Services

Printing from the browser is supported via the EShipJet Printer service, which is installed locally on every desktop device running POS. The service supports printing via thermal printers and regular desktop (invoice-style) printers.

Note

The EShipJet Printing service is limited to the Windows operating system: print functionality is not enabled when using the Register on other devices at this time. We are planning to release a solution that supports additional operating systems in a future release.

Note that the new Register now supports a virtual receipt printer through a third party emulator (KRMS-177). Instructions for installing and using the emulator are located here TBD.

KRMS-331: Data Discover Screens

New admin screens, deployed at both Corporate and Store environments, to discover and search transaction sale data. Data export is supported.

A basic function to change the sale posting status is included, to replace the Windows-based Discovery tool deployed with the legacy Register.

KRMS-461: Simplified Register Connection management

Register provisioning is greatly simplified via the "Register Connections" admin screen. A Register can be provisioned simply by copying a secure code from the Corporate admin into the Register "connection" browser page.

In a related feature, the POS license is now managed centrally at the Corporate location for all store and register deployments (KRMS-136).

KRMS-550: Stripe Payments Integration

POS 7 supports card-present credit card payments through a new integration with the Stripe Payments processor.

KRMS-561: Open Telemetry Support

Logging and distributed traces are now supported through the Open Telemetry standard. POS is bundled with a set of standard Open Telemetry components for monitoring application diagnostics, but can also integrate with other compliant tools already managed in client IT environments.

KRMS-274: Register Debug screen

Invoke a screen to view all non-sensitive information about current Register login session and current sale, with the option to copy the information to the clipboard.

KRMS-512: Internal code improvements

Extensive improvements to unit and integration tests and code quality. All code uses the latest compiler features to prevent common errors and exceptions.

KRMS-523: Log compliance redaction

Ensure log data does not contain sensitive information via redaction attributes.

KRMS-538: Upgrade Analysis Script

After updating an existing legacy database to version 7.0, implementors can run this script to detect data integration issues.

Note

This step is necessary as the legacy system did not enforce many data integrity checks. Version 7.0 performs stricter checks to ensure the correctness and validity of data. This script should be run to ensure that legacy data errors will not cause runtime issues with POS 7.0.

KRMS-562: Acu Seed Data option

Added an acu seed data option to database migrations to seed a POS installation with sample data. This seed data option accompanies a sample Acumatica import file that is also provided.

KRMS-660: Docker-based Deployment

By default, POS 7 should be deployed through a new process using Docker containers. This approach enables much quicker deployment and upgrades.
